Purchasing Power
by Michael Camilleri
Well there’s been a number of purchases since I last posted and I feel like I should bring you all up to speed on what products I’ve been out there buying with the Japanese Government’s money. I’ll try to post in the new couple of days regarding work, etc but the important things first, right?
The first new purchase was a secondhand Nikon D70. The D70 is a digital SLR camera that has just been succeeded by the D80. Now normally I’d be a fan of the latest and the greatest but at US$1000 for just the body I couldn’t really justify getting one. The D70 on the other hand was available via the magic of Yahoo! Auctions at a much more affordable ¥40,000. As of this moment the camera and I haven’t had much ‘alone time’ but I’m hoping that’ll change as I settle more into a rhythm at work.
The second new purchase was for my birthday on Friday and was one of the recently announced iPod Nanos. I had been using Rui’s iPod Mini for the past two weeks to see if I would really use an iPod. Knowing I would I took the opportunity afforded by the cosmic alignment that was Tuesday’s unveiling with Friday’s birthday to jump on the bandwagon.
At the moment I can say from atop my lofty perch, things are pretty good.
