Settling In

by Michael Camilleri

So here I am in Japan. I’m set up now living with Rui in a place called Minoh; a suburb on the northern outskirts of Osaka. It’s a pretty nice place, nestled at the base of some mountains (the name of which I should probably look up) and situated about 40 minutes away by train from Osaka’s city proper. I have a job working in Sakai City, a satellite city directly to the south of Osaka. It’s supposed to take about an hour and a half to get from Minoh to Sakai but I’ll see if I can’t shave that down a bit. Otherwise I’m going to have to get used to those 5.30 starts. That’s am.

Luckily for me school in Japan doesn’t go back until September and although I have some seminars and things to attend in the meantime I’m pretty much being paid to sit around. Granted, it’s pretty hot and humid here at the moment so sitting around is more difficult than it might otherwise appear to be but I’m not going to complain too much. With any luck I’ll be getting a mobile phone of my own tonight and then I’ll be almost completely settled in.
