Oh Yeah!

Well, now I really feel like I’m in Japan. Yesterday evening Rui and I went to Yodobashi Camera in Umeda and signed me up for a phone. Actually, it’s technically Rui’s phone since I don’t have all the required documentation but as far as we’re both concerned I’m now the proud owner of a Samsung 804SS. Now before any of the Japanophiles leap down my throat, I realise not only is this not a ‘real’ Japanese phone but that I’m not even using a ‘real’ Japanese cellular network. And you know what? I don’t care. I wanted a thin phone that could call people and email. If I have to buy a Korean phone that operates on the Vodafone 3G network then that’s what I’m going to do. Or more precisely, that’s what Rui is going to do and what I am going to get her to pay for.
Regardless of the technicalities, I have a phone and an email address. I hear spam on Japanese phones can be pretty bad and since it costs me money to receive email messages as well as to send them if you want my number or the phone’s address just drop me a line.

Vodafone are still going in Japan? I thought they were almost dead…
Well they’ve sold their assets to their joint venture partner Softbank, I believe. The brand will change over to Softbank in October. For now it’s still Vodafone, though.
